Finding relevant backlinks, and building high quality content are the two most important factors for ranking well in search engines. Both take effort, but the result is a quality digital asset that can generate reliable income for years.
Building Quality Content.
There are many ways to create content that search engines rate highly. But, whichever type of content you produce, it must include some non-negotiables.
Always remember that Google, and other search engines are primarily trying to provide the most relevant answer to a search query, so your content must:
- Be created with the “user intent” in mind.
- Provide a complete answer to the question being asked
- Offer a genuine and original solution
- Be engaging and on topic
How long should your content be?
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking longer content is the answer to better rankings.
Your content needs to be long enough to completely cover the question or achieve its’ objectives, no more.
Do your keyword research before creating anything, ensure that your formatting makes it easy to consume, and make it visually interesting.
Never copy content from elsewhere online, and reference other sites if using their content or ideas.
Good quality content helps in a number of ways
It naturally ranks better in Search engines.
Properly constructed, quality content will bring visitors based on the keyword construction you use.
Perhaps most important of all is that great content has far more chance of winning incoming backlinks from other relevant websites.
How many Relevant Backlinks do I need?
One of Google’s primary recommendations is Never pay for Backlinks, so paying to use backlinking services is fraught with danger.
Not only that, but the more backlinks that come from an article the less SEO value each link carries. So why pay for risky links from link farms?
You don’t always have to invest a lot of time and effort into backlinking.
Search engines rank individual pieces of content, not entire websites. Along with incoming links, the cumulative strength of your individual posts determine the authority of your website. So, often it’s only a few external links needed for an article to rank highly.
Knowing how many links you need, and identifying likely sources for those links can save a lot of time.

Creating Backlinks for my website.
In most cases, the most valuable backlinks you can get are from .EDU or .GOV sites. These are not easy to win, and strategies for creating those links are not the purpose of this article.
Instead of targeting .EDU and .GOV sites for links, here we focus on finding relevant backlinks from other sites.
I know they are relevant because they are already linking to my competitor’s articles on my topic. And relevance is important because along with authority, relevance decides the value to me of any incoming link I create.
How I get free backlinks for my website
Using Linkminer, I am able to get backlinks in exchange for content that benefits the other websites.
This might be in the form of a guest post I create, or simply because of the quality of my content. If the content on my site adds value to another site’s readers there is every chance that a request for a link will be successful.
But before I can reach out and ask for backlinks, it helps to find sites providing those backlinks to my competitors.

At a glance I can see the Citation Flow and Trust Flow of the link and number of external and internal links coming from the referring page. There is also the volume of Facebook shares and the Site’s Alexa Rank (these all seem to be pretty small sites without a Ranking)
To the right I can see the Anchor Text used for the Link, and the overall Link Strength Score.
You can sort your results by any metric by clicking the chevron beside the column heading.
When I right click and open the referring page in a new tab, I can quickly decide if this looks like a genuine page that I would like a link from.
